Leigh Town Sat Res 1 - 2 Ekco Park Res

Our Saturday Reserves put in a good shift today, winning until late on but losing to 2 great goals from a strong Ekco Park team.

It’s fair to say the intensity of the game was definitely impacted by this continued heat, and Ekco Park put out a strong team that were certainly on top for the early parts of the game - their pressing, directness and physicality really caused us problems.  Thankfully our defence, solid throughout the game regardless of all playing together for the first time, and we finally started to find our feet and make some impact on the game, and if not for a superb save by the Ekco keeper we would have gone in ahead through Sonny.

We came out much stronger in the second half, causing some real danger with our pressing and starting to take control of the game, regularly threatening. Finally we broke the deadlock, with Ryan’s unbelievable dummy setting David through for a classy, composed finish. If only we could have capitalised on that and pushed on…rather than tailing off a bit before Ekco brought out the ‘big guns’.  Fair play to Ekco, their equaliser was an absolute worldie, and the same player then followed up with a great run and finish to take the game towards the end.

Whilst we’re never happy with a loss, there were plenty of positives, some good triallist performances and more minutes under the belt on a hot day and painfully dry pitch. Stand out performances from the lads at the back, but Theo and Ryan both hugely impressive throughout the game.

Next up we’re at Wickford Wolves in a friendly hoping to get back to winning ways, and are itching to get the season going!
