Leigh Town Football Club is believed to be the oldest club in Essex, founded in 1865.
The team was made up largely of seafarers from the customs & excise port, boat builders and the fishing industry. Our club went on to win many accolades in the 19th century, including winning the Grays Trophy in front of over 3000 spectators, as well as winning the prestigious Essex Cup on numerous occasions, the Southend Charity Shield and more.
Today, with 6 teams currently operating across Saturday and Sunday leagues as an England Football Accredited Club, we have a rich pedigree of both developing and attracting players of a high calibre - including players who have reached Professional status in the Football League and even those going onto earn International Caps.
Our passion isn’t limited to our success though - Leigh Town FC believes firmly in the positive community impact that football can have, and that should be accessible to all regardless of age, gender, disability or any other factor. Our mission is for as many people as possible to be involved, to grow, to build life-long friendships and, most importantly, to have fun.
Our Values
-
We believe football should be for everyone, regardless of age, ability, or background. Our doors are always open, and our pitch is a place where everyone can play, grow, and belong.
-
Our club thrives on the strength of our diversity. We embrace and celebrate the unique backgrounds, perspectives, and talents of all our members, ensuring that everyone feels valued and included.
-
We are more than just a football club, we are a support system. We prioritise the wellbeing of our players and the wider community, offering a space where mental health is as important as physical fitness.
-
Proudly representing Leigh-on-Sea, we carry the spirit of our town in every match we play. We are dedicated to upholding the values of respect, teamwork, and local pride, both on and off the field.
